Job summary

Blue Origin LLC in the Seattle area seeks an experienced Hardware-in-the-Loop Lead to own the development, build, and checkout of high-fidelity HIL environments for in-space systems. You will lead a team of engineers for test campaigns, ensuring fidelity across real-time simulators, emulators, and EGSE interfaces.

The role requires strong hands-on experience with real-time hardware interfaces, avionics architectures, and embedded flight software, with the ability to coordinate across disciplines

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Aerospace Engineering or related field.
  • 8+ years in hardware-in-the-loop, system-level test, or vehicle integration.
  • Experience leading complex test campaigns with flight-like hardware.
  • Hands-on with real-time simulation platforms and hardware interfaces.
  • Knowledge of avionics, flight software interfaces, and embedded systems.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-disciplinary teams in fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design, development, build, integration and checkout of HIL test environments.
  • Define testbed requirements across multi-disciplinary teams for fidelity.
  • Own hardware/software architecture of the testbed, including EGSE and emulators.
  • Communicate status, risks and milestone readiness to program leadership.
  • Maintain configuration control of all HIL hardware, software and models.
  • Plan and execute test campaigns and define procedures with automation focus.
  • Coordinate with flight software, systems engineering, and ops for coverage of nominal/fault scenarios.
  • Track anomalies and drive closure with responsible engineers.
  • Manage a team of engineers and technicians to build/operate the testbed.
  • Develop and maintain HIL roadmap aligned with vehicle schedule.

The role is part of the In-Space Systems business unit, which is focused on addressing two of the most compelling challenges in spaceflight today: space infrastructure and increasing mobility on-orbit.As part of a hardworking team of engineers and specialists, you will lead a team and own the development, build, and checkout of high-fidelity Blue Ring integration and test environments.**Special Mentions*** Travel expected up to 25% of the time**Responsibilities include but are not limited to:*** Lead the design, development, build, integration and checkout of Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test environments* Define testbed requirements by working across multi-disciplinary teams to ensure HIL fidelity and interface definitions* Own the hardware and software architecture of the testbed, including real time simulation infrastructure, emulators, and Electronic Ground Support Equipment (EGSE)* Communicate test bed status, risks, and milestone readiness to program leadership* Maintain configuration control of all HIL hardware, software, and models.* Plan and execute testbed test campaigns supporting program milestones.* Define HIL Test Procedures and Processes with a focus on automation.* Coordinate with flight software, systems engineering, and mission operations to ensure test coverage of nominal and fault scenarios.* Track Open anomalies and drive closure with appropriate subsystem Responsible Engineers.* Manage a team of engineers and technicians to build and operate the testbed* Develop and maintain the HIL roadmap aligned with the vehicle development schedule* Evaluate emerging simulation and emulation technologies for applicability to the test program**Minimum Qualifications*** Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical field* 8+ years of experience in hardware-in-the-loop, system level test, and/or vehicle integration and test* Demonstrated experience leading complex test campaigns with flight or flight-like hardware in a systems integration environment* Hands-on experience with real-time simulation platforms and hardware interface design (serial, discrete, analog, MIL-STD-1553, SpaceWire, Ethernet, CAN, or similar)* Working knowledge of avionics architectures, flight software interfaces, and embedded systems* Proven ability to lead technical teams and coordinate across disciplines in a fast-paced development environment* Ability to work flexible hours during critical test campaigns* Experience defining test requirements and procedures from system level specifications.* Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.**Preferred Qualifications*** Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field* 5+ years of experience in systems integration* Experience with launch vehicle, spacecraft, or other aerospace systems* Familiarity with simulation model fidelity* Experience with automated test frameworks and data analysis tools* Previous lead or management experience within a test organization### Base Pay Range for:WA applicants is $145,188.00 - $203,263.20**Other site ranges may differ** **Culture Statement**Don’t meet all desired requirements?
