Job summary

Lockheed Martin is seeking an Acoustics Engineer to support the Undersea Warfare business area. You will apply underwater acoustic modeling techniques, signal processing, and propagation modeling, and contribute to transducer analysis and design within a collaborative engineering team.

The role requires an electrical or mechanical engineering background, with 3+ years in Underwater Acoustics or a Master’s degree in Acoustics Engineering.

  • Bachelor's in Electrical/Mechanical/Physics/Acoustics Eng with 3+ years in Underwater Acoustics, or a Master's in Acoustics Eng.
  • Understanding of wave theory and beamforming.

  • Proficiency with MATLAB or similar analysis tools.

The Work

As an Acoustics Engineer the candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting the Undersea Warfare business area. They will apply underwater acoustic modeling techniques and algorithms including signal processing, statistical inference, propagation modeling. They will also participate in system integration and transducer analysis and design. As part of this role the candidate must have an electrical or mechanical engineering background to support other tasking in the business area.

Conducts or participates in the research, design, development, and testing of COTS or custom computing hardware and/or other electrical components. Develops designs for the installation of components and assemblies into chassis, racks, cabinets, workstations, customer facilities, and/or shelters. Plans, directs, reviews and coordinates preparation of project documentation to ensure customer contract and company requirements are met. Prepares specifications, evaluates vendors, and analyzes test reports.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Physics or Acoustics Engineering with 3+ years of experience in Underwater Acoustics, or a Master's Degree in Acoustics Engineering.
  • Understanding of wave theory and beamforming.
  • Experience with signal processing and data analysis.
  • Ability to resolve complex technical problems.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB or similar analysis tools.
Desired Skills
  • Understanding of transducer design
  • Understanding of acoustic array design
  • Undergrad in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • LabVIEW experience
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.

Full-Time Salary Range: $85300.00 - $158300.00

  • For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
