Position Overview

The Advanced Hardware Engineer - Control Systems role will be responsible for utilizing technical skills to select and apply embedded controllers, smart sensors, electronically controlled actuators, and other electro-mechanical devices to industrial natural gas engines.

Location - this position has a hybrid work structure to include a combination of onsite at our engineering research lab in Waukesha & remote from home.

In Addition, You Will

  1. Be responsible for the identification, application, validation and release of core electrical / electronic hardware components for engine control systems (sensors, actuators, controllers).
  2. Work with internal and external stakeholders to specify and procure control hardware for design, validation, and production release.
  3. Be responsible for the validation of the hardware components with modern test methods (lab tests, accelerated tests, test on engine and field validation).
  4. Execute the prototype tests for new components.
  5. Support development of engine control algorithms utilizing new sensors and actuators.
  6. Provide support to other functional areas for the transition from product development to release.
  7. Provide testing, analysis, technical support and direction to other functional areas on resolving manufacturing, procurement, quality, service, and reliability problems as necessary.
  8. Provide selection and test support for electronic hardware outside the controls domain (e.g. HMIs, etc).

Position Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering from an accredited College or University.
  2. Minimum of 3 years’ experience in development and application of control system hardware.

Desired Skills

  1. Experience applying sensors and actuators in automotive or industrial applications.
  2. Practical experience in test methodologies for hardware components including environmental testing.
  3. Experience with simulation and modeling programs (e.g., Simulink) in industrial applications.
  4. Experience troubleshooting with Controller Area Network (CAN) communications and electronic hardware.
  5. Organizational skills required to manage multiple projects and/or activities.
  6. Demonstrated proficiency in technical writing, oral, listening and presentation skills.
