Position Overview:
The Advanced Hardware Engineer - Control Systems will utilize technical skills to select and apply embedded controllers, smart sensors, electronically controlled actuators, and other electro-mechanical devices to industrial natural gas engines.
Location - this role offers a hybrid work structure, combining onsite work at our engineering research lab in Waukesha with remote work.
In addition, you will:
- Be responsible for the identification, application, validation, and release of core electrical/electronic hardware components for engine control systems (sensors, actuators, controllers).
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to specify and procure control hardware for design, validation, and production release.
- Validate hardware components using modern test methods (lab tests, accelerated tests, engine and field validation).
- Execute prototype tests for new components.
- Support development of engine control algorithms utilizing new sensors and actuators.
- Assist other functional areas in transitioning from product development to release.
- Provide testing, analysis, technical support, and guidance to resolve manufacturing, procurement, quality, service, and reliability issues.
- Support selection and testing of electronic hardware outside the controls domain (e.g., HMIs).
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in control system hardware development and application.
Desired Skills:
- Experience applying sensors and actuators in automotive or industrial settings.
- Practical knowledge of hardware testing methodologies, including environmental testing.
- Experience with simulation and modeling tools (e.g., Simulink) in industrial applications.
- Troubleshooting experience with Controller Area Network (CAN) communications and electronic hardware.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects.
- Proficiency in technical writing, communication, listening, and presentation skills.
