Lockheed Martin's Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) Infrastructure team in Boulder, CO is seeking an Emerging Professional (level 2) Hardware Engineer with an active Secret clearance to contribute to securing and advancing space ground systems. You will help keep sensors operational and support mission-ready hardware.

This role collaborates with software, security, and mission engineers to deliver reliable, scalable hardware for SBIRS and next-gen GEO OPIR ground stations, with opportunities

Qualifications

  • Previous Hardware Engineering experience in mechanical/electrical design.
  • Knowledgeable in Hardware Engineering processes and tools.
  • Active Secret Security Clearance required for consideration. Ability to obtain/maintain SCI also required.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts or participates in the research, design, development, and testing of COTS or custom computing hardware and/or other electrical components.
  • Develops designs for the installation of components and assemblies into chassis, racks, cabinets, workstations, customer facilities, and/or shelters.
  • Plans, directs, reviews and coordinates preparation of project documentation to ensure customer contract and company requirements are met.
  • Prepares specifications, evaluates vendors, and analyzes test reports.

THE WORK

Lockheed Martin's Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) Infrastructure team is seeking a level 2 Hardware Engineer with an active Secret clearance to work from our Boulder, CO, location.

Join a team where your hardware expertise will keep the sensors that watch the sky running flawlessly, give our warfighters the split‑second advantage they need, and help keep the world safe. SBIRS and the Next‑Gen GEO OPIR ground stations form the backbone of the United States’ missile‑warning architecture.

In this role you will work closely with software, security, and mission engineers to deliver ultra‑reliable, and scalable ground‑systems that enable continuous infrared surveillance and missile‑warning capabilities for legacy and next‑gen satellite constellations.

  • Conducts or participates in the research, design, development, and testing of COTS or custom computing hardware and/or other electrical components.

This is an EMERGING PROFESSIONAL (level 2) ROLE where candidates typically require 1+ year of experience and a BS degree.

Basic Qualifications
  • Previous Hardware Engineering experience in mechanical/electrical design
  • Knowledgeable in Hardware Engineering processes and tools.
  • Active Secret Security Clearance required for consideration. Ability to obtain/maintain SCI also required.
Desired Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in a related discipline (Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Hardware Engineer).

Pay Information

Full‑Time Salary Range: $79300.00 - $147300.00

PTO, Vacation, sick leave and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
