Job summary

VIAVI Solutions in Maryland is seeking a HW/FPGA Co-op to support various stages of hardware design, including circuit design, testing, and HDL coding. You will work with engineers to develop reliable products for communications test and measurement.

The role offers hands-on experience with FPGA/CPLD, HDL coding (Verilog/VHDL), and common lab tools, with pay in the 19–35 USD/hour range depending on experience and location.

Qualifications

• Completion of at least one year of undergraduate education toward a degree in CPE, EE, or CS.
• Familiarity with FPGA or CPLD programmable logic using HDL coding (Verilog or VHDL).
• Knowledge of data communications and telecommunications concepts.
• Familiarity with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes and meters.
• Familiarity with schematic, PCB layout and SPICE simulations.

Responsibilities

• Assist with circuit design and testing during the design process.
• Troubleshoot and write HDL code and test benches.
• Collaborate with engineers to create market-leading hardware solutions.

As a HW/FPGA Engineer Co-op, you will assist with various stages of the design process such as circuit design and testing, troubleshooting, writing HDL code and test-benches. You will work closely with other engineers to produce a robust and reliable product.

You will work on a product development team to bring a product to market. You will assist with the various stages of the design process such as circuit design and testing, troubleshooting, writing HDL code and test benches. You will work closely with other engineers to create market leading solutions for communications test and measurement.

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

• Completion of at least one year of undergraduate education toward a degree in CPE, EE, or CS
• Knowledge of fundamental electrical engineering concepts, practices, and procedures
• Familiarity with FPGA or CPLD programmable logic (e.g. Altera or Xilinx) using HDL coding (Verilog or VHDL) preferred
• Familiarity with the use of common lab equipment (e.g. oscilloscopes, meters)
• Familiarity with schematic, PCB layout, and simulation tools (e.g. spice) preferred
• Knowledge of data communications and telecommunications protocols and concepts preferred
