Job summary

Rincon Research Corporation in Tucson, AZ is seeking a Hardware Engineer to design and verify RF and high‑speed digital electronics, develop schematics, PCB layouts, and test procedures for defense-related systems. You will collaborate across disciplines to deliver robust hardware solutions.

Responsibilities include creating verification plans, supporting manufacturing during NPI and full-rate production, and ensuring adherence to QMS and security requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.
• 5+ years of hardware design experience.
• Experience with RF and/or high-speed digital electronics hardware and/or firmware/FPGA design.
• Strong understanding of electronics fundamentals (Ohm’s law, transmission lines, setup/hold).
• Ability to generate schematics for high-performance circuits.
• Ability to guide PCB layout, fabrication, and assembly processes.
• Understanding of board fabrication/assembly processes and manufacturability.
• Strong written communication for technical docs.
• Ability to create procedures/scripts for production and test.
• Willingness to obtain TS/SCI clearance and US citizenship.

What are the primary responsibilities in the Hardware Engineer position?

Core responsibilities include circuit design, schematic entry, PCB layout, test development, and manufacturing support. The engineer will meet these responsibilities while complying with a Quality Management System (QMS), including supporting design reviews and using document/revision controls. The engineer will work with others on the project team to develop verification/validation plans as well as test procedures. The engineer will support the manufacturing team at planning, new product introduction, and full-rate production phases of the product lifecycle.

What required background will make you successful?

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field
• 5 years or more of hardware design experience
• Experience with RF and/or high-speed digital electronics hardware and/or firmware/FPGA design
• Strong understanding of the fundamental principles of electronics, such as Ohm’s law, transmission lines, setup and hold analysis, etc.
• Ability to generate schematics for high-performance and mixed-signal circuit boards
• Ability to directly implement or guide others in all aspects of PCB layout, fabrication and assembly processes
• Strong understanding of the circuit board fabrication and assembly processes including practical considerations for designing manufacturable electronics
• Strong written communication skills, including the ability to understand complex technical specifications and the ability to develop detailed design documentation
• Ability to generate procedures, scripts, and instructions used for production and test environments
• Creative problem solving and the ability to multi-task
• Strong written communication skills, including the ability to understand complex technical specifications
• Ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI security clearance
• US CITIZENSHIP REQUIRED

Preferred skills:

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field
• Knowledge of SDR, GPS, or GNSS/PNT systems
• Knowledge of the VPX circuit card form-factor
• Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering and tools (Cameo, DOORS, etc.)
• Experience ruggedizing electronics for military avionics environments
• Experience with test equipment like spectrum analyzers and oscilloscopes
• Experience with Altium Designer and Gitlab
• Experience with RF and analog circuit design, as well as RF test equipment
• Working knowledge of high-speed digital interfaces such as PCI Express, DDR SDRAM, High-rate Ethernet, USB3, and JESD 204

Where is the position located?

This position is located onsite at our Tucson, AZ Headquarters.

*The likely salary range for this position is $116,000 to $140,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
