Job summary

Meta is seeking a Hardware Engineer to design, validate, and bring up server and rack hardware for its global data center fleet. You will work with mechanical, electrical, thermal, and firmware teams to specify architectures and lead rigorous validation of prototypes.

You'll evaluate components, drive test plans, and ensure manufacturability with ODMs/CMs. Strong Linux validation, schematics reading, and high-speed interconnect expertise are essential.

Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering required.
  • 2+ years bringing up data center system equipment or equivalent products.
  • 2+ years PCB design with high-speed interfaces.
  • Experience with reading schematics, datasheets, and design docs.
  • Experience collaborating with ODMs/CMs through hardware lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of Linux for validation and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop server, rack, and infrastructure hardware for data centers.
  • Lead component evaluation and selection, including processors and memory.
  • Develop and execute hardware validation test plans (performance, reliability, thermal, power).
  • Analyze failures and drive root-cause investigations.
  • Collaborate with supply chain, CM/ODM partners for manufacturability and ramp.
  • Document specifications, schematics, and test reports; support operations at scale.

Job description

Meta is building the physical infrastructure that powers some of the world's largest and most complex computing systems. As a Hardware Engineer on the Infrastructure Systems team, you will design, develop, and validate server and rack-level hardware solutions that underpin Meta's global data center fleet. In this role, you will work across the full hardware development lifecycle — from architecture definition and component selection through bring-up, characterization, and production qualification — ensuring that Meta's infrastructure hardware meets the performance, reliability, and efficiency demands of hyperscale deployment.Hardware Engineer Responsibilities:Design and develop server, rack, and infrastructure hardware systems including compute, storage, and networking platforms for large-scale data center deploymentDefine hardware architecture and system-level specifications in collaboration with mechanical, electrical, thermal, and firmware engineering teamsLead component evaluation and selection, including processors, memory, storage devices, power delivery components, and interconnectsConduct hardware bring-up, functional validation, and characterization of prototype systems to verify compliance with design specificationsDevelop and execute hardware validation test plans covering performance, reliability, thermal, and power integrity requirementsAnalyze failure modes and drive root cause investigations for hardware issues identified during validation or productionCollaborate with supply chain, contract manufacturers, and ODM partners to support design-for-manufacturability reviews and production rampContribute to hardware design reviews, generating and reviewing technical documentation including specifications, schematics, and test reportsWork with data center operations and deployment teams to ensure hardware designs meet operational requirements at scaleTrack hardware program milestones, communicate technical risks, and drive resolution across cross-functional stakeholdersMinimum Qualifications:BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, or related Engineering Degree, with 2+ years of industry experience2+ years of experience with development and bring-up of data center system equipment, or complex consumer devices2+ years of experience with PCB design with both integrated and discrete circuits, and high-speed interfaces2+ years of experience with end-to-end enabling, design, and deployment cycle of multiple generations of products2+ years of experience in working with Signal Integrity (SI) and Power (including interfacing with SMEs and shareholder groups) as a board owner in developing the PCBA's high speed interfaces, and power delivery subsystems2+ years of experience with hardware bring-up, validation, and characterization of compute, storage, or networking platformsExperience with system-level hardware architecture including power delivery, thermal management, signal integrity, or high-speed interconnectsExperience reading and interpreting schematics, hardware specifications, and component datasheetsExperience collaborating with ODMs, contract manufacturers, or component vendors through the hardware development and qualification processPreferred Qualifications:M.S. in electrical engineering or computer engineeringExperience with design and troubleshoot data buses used in server such as PCIe, CXL, DDR, SAS, SATA, I2C, and similar analysis and resolution of system hardware issuesExperience with using high speed scope, logic analyzer, and other validation methods in validating and troubleshooting server data bus (e.g. PCIe, SAS, SATA)Experience with delivering a complete hardware enclosure with other cross functional teams in engineering, program, and operation3+ years of experience with server system architecture from one of the major CPU/GPU suppliersExperience with industry standard EDA tools for developing and reviewing PCB designsKnowledge of Linux for hardware validation and troubleshootingExperience working with thermal, mechanical, management firmware, system firmware, and software teams during product developmentExperience with designing ASIC verification & bring up hardwareAbout Meta:Meta builds technologies that help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses.
