Job summary

Meta is seeking a Hardware Engineer to design, develop, and validate server and rack-level hardware for its global data center fleet. You will guide architecture, select components, and lead validation across the full hardware lifecycle.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering with 2+ years industry experience.
• 2+ years data center system equipment bring-up or complex consumer devices.
• 2+ years PCB design with high-speed interfaces (integrated & discrete).
• 2+ years end-to-end enabling, design, deployment of multiple product generations.
• 2+ years working with SI and Power as a board owner for PCBA high-speed interfaces.
• 2+ years hardware bring-up, validation, characterization of compute/storage/networking platforms.
• Experience with system-level hardware architecture incl. power, thermal, SI, or interconnects.
• Experience reading schematics, specifications, and datasheets.
• Experience collaborating with ODMs/CMs through development & qualification.

Responsibilities

• Define hardware architecture and system-level specifications with cross-disciplinary teams.
• Lead component evaluation and selection including processors, memory, storage, power, and interconnects.
• Conduct hardware bring-up, validation, and characterization of prototype systems.
• Develop and execute hardware validation tests covering performance, reliability, thermal, and power integrity.
• Analyze failure modes and drive root-cause investigations.
• Collaborate with supply chain, contract manufacturers, and ODM partners for manufacturability reviews.
• Contribute to hardware design reviews with specs, schematics, and test reports.
• Work with data center operations to ensure designs meet scale requirements.
• Track milestones, communicate risks, and drive resolution with cross-functional teams.

Job description

Meta is building the physical infrastructure that powers some of the world's largest and most complex computing systems. As a Hardware Engineer on the Infrastructure Systems team, you will design, develop, and validate server and rack-level hardware solutions that underpin Meta's global data center fleet. In this role, you will work across the full hardware development lifecycle — from architecture definition and component selection through bring-up, characterization, and production qualification — ensuring that Meta's infrastructure hardware meets the performance, reliability, and efficiency demands of hyperscale deployment.

Hardware Engineer Responsibilities:

• Design and develop server, rack, and infrastructure hardware systems including compute, storage, and networking platforms for large-scale data center deployment
• Define hardware architecture and system-level specifications in collaboration with mechanical, electrical, thermal, and firmware engineering teams
• Lead component evaluation and selection, including processors, memory, storage devices, power delivery components, and interconnects
• Conduct hardware bring-up, functional validation, and characterization of prototype systems to verify compliance with design specifications
• Develop and execute hardware validation test plans covering performance, reliability, thermal, and power integrity requirements
• Analyze failure modes and drive root cause investigations for hardware issues identified during validation or production
• Collaborate with supply chain, contract manufacturers, and ODM partners to support design-for-manufacturability reviews and production ramp
• Contribute to hardware design reviews, generating and reviewing technical documentation including specifications, schematics, and test reports
• Work with data center operations and deployment teams to ensure hardware designs meet operational requirements at scale
• Track hardware program milestones, communicate technical risks, and drive resolution across cross-functional stakeholders

Minimum Qualifications:

• BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, or related Engineering Degree, with 2+ years of industry experience
• 2+ years of experience with development and bring-up of data center system equipment, or complex consumer devices
• 2+ years of experience with PCB design with both integrated and discrete circuits, and high-speed interfaces
• 2+ years of experience with end-to-end enabling, design, and deployment cycle of multiple generations of products
• 2+ years of experience in working with Signal Integrity (SI) and Power (including interfacing with SMEs and shareholder groups) as a board owner in developing the PCBA's high speed interfaces, and power delivery subsystems
• 2+ years of experience with hardware bring-up, validation, and characterization of compute, storage, or networking platforms
• Experience with system-level hardware architecture including power delivery, thermal management, signal integrity, or high-speed interconnects
• Experience reading and interpreting schematics, hardware specifications, and component datasheets
• Experience collaborating with ODMs, contract manufacturers, or component vendors through the hardware development and qualification process

Preferred Qualifications:

• M.S. in electrical engineering or computer engineering
• Experience with design and troubleshoot data buses used in server such as PCIe, CXL, DDR, SAS, SATA, I2C, and similar analysis and resolution of system hardware issues
• Experience with using high speed scope, logic analyzer, and other validation methods in validating and troubleshooting server data bus (e.g. PCIe, SAS, SATA)
• Experience with delivering a complete hardware enclosure with other cross functional teams in engineering, program, and operation
• 3+ years of experience with server system architecture from one of the major CPU/GPU suppliers
• Experience with industry standard EDA tools for developing and reviewing PCB designs
• Knowledge of Linux for hardware validation and troubleshooting
• Experience working with thermal, mechanical, management firmware, system firmware, and software teams during product development
• Experience with designing ASIC verification & bring up hardware
