Job summary

Amazon’s Material Handling Engineering team is seeking a Hardware Development Engineer to define, design, and deliver next-generation material handling equipment across our global distribution network. You will develop mechanical, electrical, and control solutions—working with internal teams and external OEM partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, mechatronics, or robotics engineering.
• 5+ years hardware engineering experience in automation or robotics.
• Proficient in SolidWorks; experience with FEA tools.
• Experience designing and validating hardware subsystems.
• Experience managing external vendors or partners.
• Strong analytical, attention to detail, and communication skills.
• Ability to work with little guidance and quick turnaround.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and validate hardware for next-generation material handling systems.
• Translate ambiguous business problems into clear technical requirements and engineering solutions.
• Collaborate with operations, procurement, global engineering, and launch teams to ensure successful product delivery.
• Lead design-for-manufacturing, assembly, installation, and maintenance processes to ensure long-term scalability.
• Evaluate OEM hardware solutions; identify gaps and lead in-house design where required.
• Build prototypes, conduct testing, and analyze results to validate performance, safety, and reliability.
• Author technical specifications, design documents, and test plans.
• Champion data-driven decision making, ensuring technical trade-offs are well-documented.
• Manage risk through proactive identification and mitigation strategies.
• Stay current with emerging technologies in automation, robotics, and industrial equipment.
