Job summary

Amazon’s Material Handling Engineering team is seeking a Hardware Development Engineer (HDE) to help define, design, and deliver the next generation of material handling equipment across our global distribution network. You will develop mechanical, electrical, and control solutions—working both independently and in collaboration with third-party OEM partners.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of mechanical engineering experience or equivalent.
• Prototyping and implementation experience.
• Experience with SolidWorks simulation or Ansys finite element analysis.
• Experience designing complex mechanical products at volume.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and validate hardware solutions for next-gen material handling systems.
• Translate business problems into technical requirements and engineering solutions.
• Collaborate with operations, procurement, global engineering, and launch teams for successful delivery.
• Lead design-for-manufacturing, assembly, installation, and maintenance processes for scalability.
• Evaluate OEM hardware solutions and lead in-house design where needed.
• Build prototypes, conduct testing, and analyze results for performance, safety, and reliability.
• Author specifications, design documents, and test plans.
• Champion data-driven decisions and document technical trade-offs.
• Manage risk through proactive identification and mitigation.
