Position Overview
Our client is seeking Hardware Development Engineers II and III to support the design, development, integration, and testing of electronic hardware for industrial automation products, including PLCs, industrial computers, HMI systems, and control hardware.
This is a hands-on hardware development role covering the full product lifecycle—from circuit design, schematic development, component selection, simulation, and PCB layout through prototype bring-up, debugging, EMC/compliance testing, and product qualification.
Candidates should have practical experience in both electronic hardware design and laboratory-based prototype testing. Experience limited to design without hands-on debugging, board bring-up, or compliance testing is not sufficient.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop analog, digital, mixed-signal, processor-based, and DC power-conversion circuits.
- Develop and review schematics, select components, perform circuit analysis, and support PCB layout using Mentor Graphics and Altium.
- Support product architecture, circuit integration, design verification, and prototype development.
- Perform PCB board bring-up, functional testing, debugging, and troubleshooting.
- Develop hardware verification plans, test procedures, engineering documentation, and technical reports.
- Conduct laboratory testing using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, power meters, power supplies, debuggers, ESD equipment, and EMC/environmental test chambers.
- Perform EMC and compliance testing, including radiated/conducted emissions, immunity, and ESD.
- Support Ethernet performance and compliance testing for industrial communication products.
- Investigate hardware failures, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective design changes.
- Develop automated laboratory tests and data-collection processes using Python, where applicable.
- Collaborate with firmware, software, mechanical, manufacturing, test, quality, and compliance teams.
- Participate in design reviews, Agile development activities, and technical problem-solving.
- Research new components, technologies, circuit-design techniques, and engineering tools.
- Level III: Lead technical initiatives, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to hardware-development best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical field.
- Engineer II: 2–5 years of directly relevant electronic hardware product-development experience.
- Engineer III: 5+ years of directly relevant electronic hardware product-development experience.
- Hands-on experience with analog, digital, or mixed-signal circuit design.
- Experience with schematic capture, component selection, circuit analysis, PCB design/layout, and hardware verification.
- Working knowledge of Mentor Graphics and Altium.
- Strong ability to read, develop, analyze, and troubleshoot electronic schematics.
- Hands-on experience with prototype board bring-up, debugging, and hardware verification.
- Laboratory experience using electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, and debuggers.
- Experience with EMC/compliance testing, including emissions, immunity, or ESD.
- Experience preparing test procedures, test results, engineering documentation, and technical reports.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
