Job summary

Port of Bellingham seeks a clerical professional to track and maintain records for multiple projects, using PC and mainframe systems.

General Description

Responsible clerical work consisting of tracking, compiling, and maintaining records and data related to projects. Complex clerical work, which requires personal computer and mainframe capabilities.

Essential Job Functions

Creates folders and assists in maintaining files and records. Performs typing of correspondence, reports, memoranda, forms, and records. Files records and maintains logs. Assists with programs and maintains files for projects. Processes and distributes all incoming and outgoing mail. May assist in related accounting/bookkeeping functions in the absence of the designee, performing such duties as correlation and processing of pay requests, invoices, purchase orders, and vouchers for payment. Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Knowledge of business English, spelling, arithmetic, and office practices. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public. Ability to operate office machines. Ability to prepare correspondence, reports, memos, forms, and records. Knowledge of the use of a personal computer and related software. Ability to acquire knowledge of rules and regulations relative to accounting work.

Minimum Requirements

PHYSICAL SKILLS: Ability to communicate effectively using speaking, hearing, writing, and vision skills.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Two years of experience in bookkeeping and/or the maintenance of fiscal records. Experience using a personal computer and related software. Experience with Microsoft Office preferred.

Typing Speed: 25 cwpm

A comparable amount of directly related experience MAY be substituted at the County’s discretion for the minimum educational requirements if candidates are not available that fully meet the minimum requirements of the position as posted.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS: Some positions may require a driver’s license.
