Job description

This position is responsible for general construction, carpentry, roofing, finishes, installation, maintenance and repairs works on Airport Facilities. Assists in other Facilities Areas including but not limited to plumbing, electricity, jetbridges, HVAC and runway lighting. Responds and documents work order requests submitted by Airport personnel and/or Supervisor. Performs other scheduled maintenance and inspection works. Strictly follows all applicable codes and standard as well as safety requirements. Coordinates resources, equipment and materials required to perform the work effectively and efficiently.

Essential Functions:
  • Installs structures or fixtures, such as windows, frames, floorings, trim, or hardware, using carpenters' hand or power tools.
  • Inspects ceiling, floor tile, wall coverings, siding, glass, roof or woodwork to detect and repair broken or damaged structures.
  • Studies specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required.
  • Sweeps and cleans roofs to prepare them for the application of new roofing materials or as a preventive maintenance measure.
  • Mix, pour and spreads mortar, plaster, and grout, manually or using machines, according to standard formulas.
  • Cut materials to specified sizes for installation, using power saws or tile cutters.
  • Modifies material moving, mixing, grouting, grinding, polishing, or cleaning procedures, according to installation or material requirements.
  • Prepares, installs, repairs, or rebuilds tiles, bricks, or stones surfaces.
  • Measures, marks, or records openings or distances to layout areas where construction work will be performed.
  • Digs ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, or compact and level earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, or rakes.
  • Mop, brush, or spreads paints, cleaning solutions, or other compounds over surfaces to clean them or to provide protection.
  • Clear drains and downspouts and clean gutters.
  • Builds or repairs cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors, or other wooden fixtures used in buildings, using woodworking machines, carpenter's hand tools, or power tools.
  • Assembles and fasten materials to make frameworks or props, using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue.
  • Executes any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualification Requirements:
  • High School Diploma.
  • The position requires a minimum of six (6) months of experience in similar functions.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Language skills in Spanish and English. Ability to read and understand simple instructions.
  • Knowledge and ability to work with tools and equipment required to perform his/her functions.
  • Customer service oriented.
  • Knowledge in radio communication, management and use of technical and personal safety equipment, tools, and medium vehicles.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
