Job summary

Tatte Bakery & Café is seeking a hands-on Sous Chef to lead kitchen operations at our Alexandria, VA location, overseeing production and service while developing the kitchen team.

You will ensure recipes, portions, and presentation meet our standards, supervise up to 25 staff, and help adapt menus with the Chef. The role requires at least 3 years in a high-volume kitchen and a passion for scratch cooking.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of culinary or kitchen management experience in a high-volume food service environment.
• Passion for scratch cooking and culinary excellence.
• Strong understanding of food quality, presentation, food safety, sanitation, and food cost controls.
• Excellent leadership, coaching, and communication skills.
• Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily kitchen production and service according to company standards.
• Ensure recipes, portioning, and presentation standards are consistently followed.
• Complete daily management responsibilities accurately and on time.
• Maintain a strong understanding of the menu through daily tasting.
• Coach and develop kitchen team members in food preparation, equipment operation, food safety, and sanitation.
• Maintain cleaning and preventative maintenance schedules for kitchen equipment and work areas.
• Manage inventory while maintaining food cost and operational standards.
• Assist with the execution of seasonal menu changes.
• Support overall kitchen operations in the absence of the Chef.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
