You will conduct deposition, characterization, and failure analysis in a laboratory setting, collaborating with scientists and engineers across the quantum hardware organization. This on-site role emphasizes hands-on development, utilizing advanced fabrication and metrology tools

Qualifications

  • PhD in Materials Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or related field.
  • MS with 3+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • BS with 5+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in characterization and development of superconductors, metallic thin films, and/or solder systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize advanced packaging interconnects, metal thin films, and solder systems to improve device yield and reliability.
  • Investigate materials-related loss mechanisms via interfacial scattering, grain boundaries, defects, and chemical inhomogeneities.
  • Design and execute experiments using test vehicles to evaluate materials behavior and performance.
  • Partner with design and process engineering teams to integrate new materials into packaging solutions.
  • Prepare and analyze samples using advanced characterization techniques.
  • Perform electrical, structural, and chemical analyses to understand material properties.
  • Apply statistical methods to extract insights from experimental data.
  • Characterize using XPS, SIMS, FIB/TEM, XRD, XRF to identify root causes and drive improvements.
  • Identify technical risks, guide material selection, and support integration into fabrication processes.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers.
