Job summary

Building Bridges Across the River seeks a highly skilled MEP Building Engineer to operate, maintain, and repair HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems across THEARC, a 233,000 square foot nonprofit campus in Washington, DC. The role involves extensive field work, hands-on problem solving, and coordination with facilities staff.

Responsibilities include inspections, preventive maintenance, system upgrades, and budgeting.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical certification in HVAC, Electrical Systems, Building Maintenance, or related field, OR equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of hands-on MEP maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs in commercial/institutional facilities.
  • Experience with HVAC systems (chillers, boilers, air handlers, rooftops), electrical distribution, plumbing, and BAS.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair complex MEP equipment using manuals and diagnostic tools.
  • Proficiency with hand/power tools and NEC/plumbing/mechanical codes.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and repair mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems across the campus.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and inspections on MEP systems.
  • Diagnose complex failures and minimize downtime.
  • Manage budgets and coordinate with facilities staff and tenants.
  • Coordinate with outside contractors for specialized work and ensure quality control.
