Job summary

Automatic Pool Covers, Inc. in Westfield, IN seeks a hands-on Mechanical Engineer/Designer to join onsite, supporting design, development, and continuous improvement of automatic pool cover systems.

You will contribute to new product development, improve existing designs, and support manufacturing operations to drive product quality, reliability, and cost efficiency. Collaborative cross-functional work with production, quality, purchasing, suppliers, and customer support is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Design preferred, or 5+ years of related engineering experience.
• 3+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
• Experience with sheet metal, aluminum fabrication, machining, injection molding, and mechanical assemblies is preferred.
• Experience supporting manufacturing operations and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and project management abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and improve mechanical components and assemblies for automatic pool cover systems.
• Engage in new product development from concept through production launch.
• Create and revise 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs).
• Participate in design reviews, prototype builds, and product testing.
• Ensure products comply with applicable engineering standards and safety requirements.
• Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities through product and process improvements.
• Provide engineering support for manufacturing.
• Collaborate with Quality to investigate product failures and identify root causes.
• Work with Purchasing and suppliers on component sourcing, quality improvements, and cost reductions.
• Assist with Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and document control.
• Support Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Travel occasionally to suppliers, dealers, or customer locations as needed.
