Job summary

Charlotte County Utilities is seeking an Instrumentation & Control Technician to perform hands-on work on electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and automated control systems behind our water and wastewater infrastructure.

You will troubleshoot, calibrate, and upgrade instrumentation, install and modify controls, and collaborate with mechanics to ensure reliable service for the community. A high school diploma plus technical training and 2 years of experience are required.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent with vocational or technical training in electronics, instrumentation, and controls.
Two years of experience in repair, inspection, adjustment, and calibration of electronic controls and instrumentation.
Must maintain a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electrical, electronic, and pneumatic instrumentation and control systems throughout water and wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, distribution and collection systems, chlorine injection stations, and other Utilities facilities.
Test and calibrate precision instrumentation used to monitor and control flow, level, pressure, temperature, analytical measurements, and other critical processes.
Install, modify, and upgrade electronic instruments, automated controls, computer control systems, and system interfaces.
Diagnose equipment and system issues, determine appropriate repairs or replacements, and help identify opportunities to modernize aging or obsolete instrumentation.
Design, fabricate, program, commission, and document complex control system upgrades and participate in special technical projects.
Work alongside mechanics on the installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of electrical equipment, including motors, generators, transformers, wiring systems, and fixtures.
Read, prepare, and interpret drawings, sketches, schematics, records, and technical reports.
Monitor system performance, recognize unusual operating conditions, troubleshoot problems, and take appropriate corrective action.
Maintain accurate records of instrumentation installation, calibration, testing, maintenance, and repairs.
Participate in scheduled on-call and emergency response programs to help ensure essential Utilities services remain operational when our community needs them most.
