Job description

The Hands-On History Regional Program Manager (Northern Colorado) reports to the Hands-On History Program Director and oversees school break camps at three to five Northern Colorado locations. Their duties include developing engaging activities, supervising seasonal camp teams, ensuring a safe environment, managing budgets, and maintaining compliance with school-age child care licensing regulations. They also communicate with parents, coordinate with program sites, and ensure the program supports children's social and emotional growth.

Hands-On History is a collection of engaging and exciting educational programs. They provide participatory history and culture-based offerings for students ages 6 to 12 when school is not in session. Offered at multiple locations across Colorado throughout the calendar year, each program’s curriculum focuses on hands-on, experiential-style explorations. It provides interactive classes with themes and topics specifically tailored to each community.

Key Responsibilities
Staff Management
  • Recruit, hire, train, retain, and supervise qualified, caring camp staff for regional sites. Ensure every staff member feels well-trained, supported, and genuinely valued; a confident, care-for-team is what makes HOH possible.
Program Safety
  • Ensure compliance with state childcare licensing rules and maintain a safe and secure environment for children. Supports Camp Directors in handling sensitive, emergency, behavioral, and/or medical situations when they arise. Handles escalations as needed.
Curriculum
  • Develop engaging activities grounded in history and personal geography.
Administration
  • Manage program budgets, enrollment records, and family communication. Oversees logistics, compliance, operations, and inventory management for the programs they support.
Quality Assurance
  • Visits camps to observe operations, provide support, give feedback, and implement change; will need to travel to camps and may lead a camp in an emergency or if the Director is vacant.

Child Care Program Director Qualification (Special Requirement):
  • A Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with a major area of study in Child Development, Psychology, Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Elementary Education, Elementary Special Education, Family and Human Development, Family Studies, Special Education, Outdoor Education, Recreation, or Human Services.
  • An Associate’s degree or sixty (60) semester credit hours from an accredited college or university AND three (3) months (455 hours) of verified experience in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children over the age of four (4) who are not related to the applicant.
  • Twenty-one (21) months (3,185 hours) of verified experience in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children over the age of four (4) who are not related to the applicant AND either six (6) semester credit hours in applicable coursework OR completion of forty (40) clock hours of training applicable to school-age children within the first nine (9) months of employment.
  • A current Early Childhood Professional Credential Level II (2) or higher (Version 3.0) as determined by the Colorado Department of Early Childhood.
Professional Experience Requirement:
  • At least two (2) years of full-time professional experience managing and developing youth programming, which must include experience hiring, training, and supervising staff who provide direct care for children.
  • Part-time experience will be pro-rated based on a 40-hour work week.
Conditions of Employment
  • Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment (per State Child Care Licensing regulations).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and have the ability to travel independently to program locations in Denver, Greeley, and offsite work locations across Colorado.
  • Must hold or obtain current First Aid and CPR certifications upon hire.
  • Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule to meet program staffing needs during school breaks, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of the position, including occasional lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds, and frequent bending, reaching, and squatting.
  • Must successfully pass a state criminal background check and child abuse registry/fingerprint background screening prior to hire.

  • Adaptability & Process Improvement: Ability to navigate changing program needs, solve operational problems proactively, and refine processes to enhance program efficiency and safety.
