Job summary

Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) seeks a hands-on Engineering Tech Consultant for District 08 in Alexandria. The role supports senior engineers, manages complex field requests, and provides technical advice to staff and contractors.

The position emphasizes attention to detail, safety, and thorough documentation, with reporting to the District Engineer and supervision of lower-level technicians. It is a field-based role in Rapides Parish.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus 4 years of sub-professional engineering experience.
• Six months of related experience plus 4 years of sub-professional engineering experience.
• 24 semester hours in engineering-related fields such as engineering/tech/physics.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction management or construction technology.

Responsibilities

• Assist with complex assignments by managing internal and external requests, including plan reviews and TMPs.
• Conduct traffic operations studies and prepare reports with recommendations per engineering directives.
• Perform traffic studies related to signals, intersections, and speed changes; provide guidance to staff.
• Provide on-the-job training or assistance to technicians.
• May perform other duties including emergency/disaster support.
