Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) seeks a Construction Engineer to support transportation projects through construction project delivery, field engineering, documentation, and contractor coordination. DOTD is seeking a Construction Engineer to support transportation projects and programs through construction project delivery, field engineering, construction documentation, contractor coordination, and review of work performed in accordance with DOTD standards and specifications. This position supports the development, delivery, maintenance, or improvement of transportation infrastructure by applying engineering principles, conducting technical analysis, coordinating projects, and conducting compliance-related reviews.

No prior engineering experience is required — training is provided, with opportunities for career progression and advancement through the Engineering job series.

Positions are located in Bossier Parish, and report to the Engineer 6.

Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.

NOTE: This is a temporary position to be utilized while the incumbent is securing a Louisiana Engineer Intern certificate. Permanent status shall be denied to incumbents occupying this position.

Job Duties:

Depending on level and assignment, Engineer Intern Applicant-Engineer Intern 2 may:

• Performs engineering studies or analyses related to traffic operations, safety, signals, or traffic control.
• Reviews or prepares traffic reports, signal plans, safety studies, operational analyses, or technical documentation.
• Supports evaluation of traffic patterns, safety concerns, roadway operations, or mobility improvements.
• Coordinates with DOTD districts, project teams, consultants, local officials, and other stakeholders.
• Uses traffic engineering software, data systems, or technical tools to analyze operational needs.
• Assists with recommendations related to traffic control, signal systems, safety improvements, or operational changes.
• Applies applicable standards, policies, and procedures related to traffic engineering and transportation operations.
• Supports emergency or incident response activities as needed.

Career Progression:

This position is part of a Career Progression Group and may be filled as an Engineer Intern Applicant, Engineer Intern 1, or Engineer Intern 2.

Compensation:

The following reflects the beginning biweekly salary for each level. A Special Entrance Rate (SER) may apply to qualifying positions.

• Engineer Intern Applicant – $1,923.20 biweekly
• Engineer Intern 1 – SER at $2,692.80 biweekly
• Engineer Intern 2 – SER at $2,881.60 biweekly

Appointment Type:

This position may be filled as a job appointment or probational appointment. A job appointment is a temporary appointment that may last up to 36 months. If filled as a job appointment, the position may be converted to a probational appointment in the future.

Upcoming Graduates:

Applications will be accepted from applicants who are within 90 days of graduation. Any offer of employment will be contingent upon verification and confirmation that the applicant has received a qualifying degree. If selected, the applicant will be eligible to begin work the day after graduation. The selected candidate will be required to submit an official transcript confirming graduation within 60 days of hire.
