Job summary

Environmental Works, Inc. (EWI) seeks an Environmental Scientist for a hands-on role that blends field sampling with remediation system operations and site maintenance. You will collect soil, groundwater, surface water, and air samples, prepare reports, monitor equipment, assist with drilling and surveys, and coordinate with project managers and regulators.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Chemistry, Biology, or related field.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company vehicle insurance requirements.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• 1–5 years of environmental field experience preferred (sampling, monitoring, or remediation).
• Knowledge of remediation system operations preferred.
• 40-hour HAZWOPER and confined space training preferred.
• Ability to obtain Illinois Class K Wastewater Certification after hire.
• Experience with AutoCAD or GIS is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Collect soil, groundwater, surface water, air, and wastewater samples for laboratory testing.
• Prepare, label, package, and ship samples; maintain accurate sampling records.
• Support drilling, soil/rock logging, and site surveys; assist with remediation activities.
• Record field observations and prepare field summaries, tables, and technical reports.
• Operate and monitor remediation systems and record data on system performance.
• Coordinate field work with Project Managers, regulators, and vendors.
