Job summary

Deque is seeking a Director of Technical Operations to own the infrastructure behind all Deque products. You will manage a hands-on SRE team in a fast-growing, security-conscious environment in Ann Arbor, MI.

You will lead IaC, AWS, and CI/CD pipelines, drive reliability, incident response, and data-security practices (GDPR/ISO-27001), and collaborate with Security and product teams to maintain uptime and compliance.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in infrastructure, SRE, or IT operations with growing responsibility.
• Deep hands-on AWS experience—not just oversight.
• Infrastructure as code in production (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK or similar).
• Containers and orchestration (EKS, ECS, Docker, Kubernetes).
• CI/CD pipelines you’ve built or rebuilt, not inherited.
• Observability, instrumentation, alerting, and on-call practice.
• Experience in customer-facing outages.
• GDPR obligations and data handling knowledge.
• Clear, executive-friendly reporting and dashboards.

Responsibilities

• Own production AWS infrastructure behind all Deque SaaS products.
• Ensure availability, performance, and capacity against commitments.
• Lead incident command and postmortems.
• Plan backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity with tested restores.
• Manage AWS cost visibility and savings pipeline.
• Lead team to 99.99% uptime.
• Manage changes and documentation artifacts.
• Oversee internal IT systems like Jira, GitHub, Zendesk, and others.
• Vendor relationships and IAM across tooling.
• End-user IT operations and onboarding/offboarding.
• Install and upgrade Deque products in customer environments.
• Document runbooks and operational standards.
• AI in operations with governance.
