Job summary

Fehr & Peers is hiring an Application Development Manager to lead a three-person team within our IT group. This hybrid role is based in Roseville or Sacramento, with two days in the office and quarterly travel to Walnut Creek.

You will stay close to the code, mentor developers, and drive how software is built, reviewed, and secured. You'll guide internal applications, data tools, dashboards, and integrations, while advising across the firm on when to build, buy, or automate, including

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software development, DevOps, or related field.
• 2+ years of leadership, management, or senior technical mentorship.
• Hands-on development experience, including writing code and building applications.
• Strong proficiency in Python and JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Experience with Flask or comparable web framework.
• Familiarity with deployment patterns (WSGI, Gunicorn, Nginx).
• Linux server environment (Ubuntu, systemd).
• Git-based version control and repository governance (GitLab).
• Experience with relational databases and enterprise apps.
• Experience with AI coding assistants in professional workflow.
• Mentoring junior/mid developers and strong communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow a three-person development team for applications, databases, and internal tooling.
• Balance enterprise support, custom tools, client projects, and internal requests.
• Provide hands-on technical guidance and establish fair leadership.
• Improve development practices and governance across the team.
