Job summary

LiquidPiston is seeking Design Engineer Interns to contribute to hands-on rotary engine design and subsystem development. You will transform concepts into CAD models, support analysis, and participate in rapid prototyping within a collaborative team environment.

You will work closely with senior engineers, simulation specialists, and test teams on real engine technology, with opportunities to advance from CAD to prototype to tested components for aerospace, UAVs, and hybrid propulsion

Qualifications

Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Strong proficiency in SolidWorks.
Fundamentals of mechanics of materials, thermodynamics, and manufacturing processes.
Hands-on prototyping, basic machining, or 3D printing experience.
U.S. person status preferred due to defense/aerospace projects.
Thrives in a fast-paced, small-team environment.

Responsibilities

Support conceptual and detailed design of rotary engine components using SolidWorks or similar CAD tools.
Create and modify 3D models, assemblies, and drawings following ASME standards.
Assist in design analysis using hand calculations, basic FEA, and collaboration with simulation engineers.
Participate in rapid prototyping: additive manufacturing, CNC machining, or in-house fabrication.
Support design reviews, tolerance stack-ups, and manufacturability assessments.
Help iterate designs based on test results, simulation feedback, or manufacturing constraints.
Contribute to fixture/tooling design for engine assembly or testing.
Document designs and changes in reports and project tools.
Collaborate across mechanical, manufacturing, controls, and test teams.
