Job summary

Smith Seckman Reid, Inc in Tampa is seeking a Commissioning Intern to support the commissioning services team. The role provides hands-on experience across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems during the commissioning process.

Under guidance from seasoned Commissioning Authorities, you will participate in planning, documentation, and performance testing while gaining exposure to energy efficiency and high‑performance building practices.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Assist commissioning professionals with project planning, field observations, and testing.
• Review construction documents, equipment submittals, and operation & maintenance manuals.
• Participate in site visits to observe system installations and verify compliance with project requirements.
• Document deficiencies, observations, and testing results.
• Help prepare commissioning reports, checklists, and project documentation.
• Observe startup activities and functional testing of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and control systems.
• Attend project meetings with engineers, contractors, owners, and facility staff.
• Support data collection and analysis related to system performance and energy efficiency.
• An individual with potential for employment and growth within the firm.
• Incumbent must operate a computer to check email and produce documents; traverse construction sites.
• Must be able to lift plans weighting 30 pounds.
