Job summary

Altimetrik is seeking a hands-on API Architect to own the API layer of an enterprise Azure Data Hub in Cary, NC. The role blends architecture with significant hands-on work (60/40) to design and build scalable API services.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in API architecture, Java Spring Boot/WebFlux, Azure, Terraform, and security-focused design, with proficiency in CI/CD and data modeling.

Qualifications

• 13+ years of API, integration, or backend engineering experience.
• 3+ years owning API Architecture & Design at enterprise scale.
• Strong Java, Spring Boot, Spring WebFlux & Project Reactor.
• Reactive streams, backpressure, non-blocking I/O & file streaming.
• REST, OpenAPI, contract-first development & API versioning.
• Azure App Service, AKS or Container Apps.
• Azure API Management (APIM).
• Entra ID, Managed Identities, RBAC, Key Vault & Private Endpoints.
• Azure Event Hubs / Service Bus / Kafka.
• OAuth2, OIDC, JWT & API security.
• Python for automation, testing & operational tooling.
• Strong SQL & data modeling.
• Azure DevOps CI/CD & Terraform.
• Contract, integration, load & automated testing.
• Azure Monitor & Application Insights.
• Strong technical communication and architecture documentation.

Responsibilities

• Own the API layer of an enterprise Azure Data Hub.
• Design and build scalable API services.
• Balance architecture and hands-on engineering (60/40).
• Collaborate with client architects and engineering teams.
• Ensure API security, testing, and release pipelines.
• Mentor engineers and lead design reviews.
• Produce architecture documentation.
