Job summary

Colby College Museum of Art invites Teaching Artists to join the Linde Family Foundation School and Teacher Programs. You will design and teach age-appropriate studio art activities for visiting schoolchildren and families, collaborating with education staff to connect art experiences with curricular goals.

Based in Waterville, ME, you will help engage about 3,000 Maine school children annually, support campus and community partnerships, and contribute to a welcoming, inclusive studio

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education are a plus.
  • A strong artistic background combined with the ability to translate that into effective and engaging lessons for different age groups.
  • Proficient with a variety of art media and techniques appropriate for K-12 students.
  • Knowledge of and curiosity about artistic traditions and art history.
  • Strong oral communication, interpersonal, and public communication skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to complete clear, concise reports.
  • Highly motivated, flexible, and comfortable with all audiences.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem solving skills with tact and diplomacy.
  • Able to work independently as well as in a team, manage priorities, and complete projects with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite; ability to learn Airtable, Adobe Creative Suite, EventBrite, SurveyMonkey, Workday, and others.

Responsibilities

  • Teach hands-on art lessons in the Museum's Mirken Education Center.
  • Develop studio lesson plans that meet curricular goals and advance the museum's mission.
  • Create art-making activities for community programs onsite and offsite for various ages.
  • Assist other departments as needed.
  • Track progress and share with museum staff.
  • Work cooperatively to ensure visitors feel welcome and energized.
  • Prepare and organize materials; maintain tidy studio space; report issues as needed.
  • Attend regular training sessions.
