City of Thornton is seeking a Gymnastics Instructor I/II to teach a range of gymnastics classes to participants of varying ages. Responsibilities include setup, instruction, and supervision in a friendly recreation setting.
Applicants should be able to spot gymnasts, maintain safety standards, and communicate effectively with participants and parents. Some experience in recreation settings is preferred; the role requires flexibility and reliability.
This position will remain open until filled. Work schedule is Monday - Friday, 4pm - 7pm and Saturday, 8am - 1pm
Under general supervision, teaches gymnastics classes.
Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from Gymnastics Instructor I or, when filled from the outside, require previous and directly related experience. Level and starting salary will depend upon the successful candidate’s education, knowledge, experience, and certifications.
This is the entry-level class in the Gymnastics Instructor series. Incumbents entering this class have no or very limited work-related experience.
This is the journey-level class in the Gymnastics Instructor series.

Must be at least 15 years of age. Previous experience as a competitive gymnast or gymnastics teaching experience in a recreation setting or a private club is preferred.
Two years of gymnastics teaching experience in a recreation setting or a private club or one year of experience as a city of Thornton Gymnastics Instructor I.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, sit, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, talk, hear, and make repetitive motions. This position is considered medium or heavy work depending on the assignment; exerting up to 50 or 100 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 30 or 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The employee must demonstrate the ability to remain calm during routine and stressful conditions. The employee may be subject to environmental and atmospheric conditions, as well as loud noise.
Examinations may include but are not limited to application screening beyond minimum qualifications; written, oral, practical exercise or any combination thereof or other job related assessment deemed appropriate by Human Resources.
