SUMMARY:

The Gymnastics Head Coach is responsible for leading and developing a comprehensive high school gymnastics program that emphasizes student-athlete growth, competitive excellence, sportsmanship, and academic success. The Head Coach is expected to foster a positive, inclusive team culture while ensuring compliance with all Hopkins Public Schools, Lake Conference, and Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) policies and regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Organize, supervise, and administer all aspects of the Hopkins High School Gymnastics program.
• Plan and conduct safe, organized, and effective daily practices that develop individual and team skills.
• Teach proper gymnastics techniques, routines, conditioning, and competition strategies.
• Develop season plans, practice schedules, and competition preparation.
• Foster a positive team culture emphasizing sportsmanship, respect, accountability, and academic success.
• Establish and communicate team rules, expectations, and standards of conduct.
• Supervise and evaluate assistant coaches while promoting consistency throughout the program.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes by following appropriate spotting techniques, equipment safety procedures, and emergency protocols.
• Coordinate team travel, equipment, uniforms, inventory, and meet logistics.
• Work collaboratively with the Activities Office regarding eligibility, scheduling, transportation, budgeting, and program operations.
• Maintain accurate team records, statistics, and required MSHSL documentation.
• Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents/guardians, school staff, officials, and community members.
• Attend department meetings, coaches' meetings, rules interpretation meetings, and required professional development.
• Demonstrate professionalism and serve as a positive role model for student-athletes both on and off the competition floor.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

• Previous successful gymnastics coaching experience at the high school, club, or collegiate level preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of gymnastics techniques, skill progression, competition rules, and athlete development.
• Previous experience supervising assistant coaches is preferred.
• Valid Minnesota teaching license or ability to obtain appropriate coaching authorization preferred.
• Successful completion of all MSHSL coaching requirements and district employment requirements.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

• Strong leadership and organizational skills.
• Knowledge of current gymnastics rules, safety standards, and competition procedures.
• Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, staff, officials, and community members.

• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, lift, carry, and move gymnastics equipment throughout practices and competitions. Ability to demonstrate and safely spot gymnastics skills. Requires sustained concentration, effective decision-making, and the ability to respond appropriately during emergency situations. Must be able to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed primarily in gymnasium and athletic facility settings with frequent evening practices, competitions, weekend events, and occasional travel. Exposure to noise, physical activity, and varying environmental conditions associated with athletic facilities should be expected.

Schedule & Compensation:

70 Days

Stipend Range: $6,509 - $7,506 DOE
