Job summary

GM Performance Power Units in Concord, NC is seeking a Gym Design Intern to support the planning, design, and installation of an employee gym and wellness space in a new state-of-the-art Formula 1 facility.

This internship provides hands-on experience in facility design, space planning, equipment selection, and project coordination. The intern will work closely with the facilities team to help create a safe, functional, and engaging gym environment for all employees.

Qualifications

• Current college/university students seeking undergraduate or graduate degrees in health and exercise science, physical therapy, or similar fields.
• Interest in personal training.
• Familiarity with basic documentation practices.
• Basic knowledge of design and space planning.
• Understanding of current fitness trends and best practices.

Responsibilities

• Own the design process of the employee gym including creating floor plans and sketches.
• Research current fitness equipment and industry trends.
• Support equipment placement planning to maximize safety, accessibility, and user experience.
• Prepare presentations, design proposals, and project documentation.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and incorporate feedback into design plans.
• Assist with budgeting, vendor coordination, and equipment requests for procurement.
• Ensure designs comply with safety standards, accessibility requirements, and organizational guidelines.
• Help track project timelines, deliverables, and implementation progress.
• Other duties as assigned

Key Responsibilities :

Own the design process of the employee gym including creating floor plans and sketches

Research current fitness equipment and industry trends .
