Power Unit & Electrical Configuration Engineer - Onsite

Job Summary

The Power Unit & Electrical Configuration Engineer plays a critical role in the design, documentation, and build of engine wiring looms for Formula One power units, while also owning the creation, control, and governance of component part numbers within Teamcenter PLM. This position ensures configuration accuracy, traceability, and reliability across highly complex, performance‑critical mechanical and electrical systems.

Working in a fast‑paced, high‑performance environment, the engineer collaborates closely with design, electrical and ERS teams, manufacturing, and test functions to deliver precision‑engineered solutions under strict timelines and the highest standards of quality and confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assign part numbers to standard parts in accordance with GMPPU guidelines and configuration rules.
  • Create, enter, and maintain component, sub‑assembly, and assembly records in Teamcenter PLM.
  • Ensure accurate population of metadata and attributes (description, material, weight, lifecycle state, FIA relevance, etc.)
  • Support high‑frequency design changes and short lead‑time updates typical of F1 development cycles.
  • Maintain revision control and lifecycle status to support race‑specific builds and development directions.
  • Support engineering change processes (ECR/ECN) and ensure correct traceability for performance and reliability analysis.
  • Prevent duplication of parts through disciplined search, reuse, and classification practices.
  • Collaborate with design engineering, manufacturing, race team, and logistics to resolve data or configuration issues.
  • Maintain and improve part numbering rules, naming conventions, and PLM processes.
Engine Wiring Loom Design & Build
  • Design engine and power unit wiring looms to F1‑level standards for reliability, weight, and packaging.
  • Produce detailed loom drawings, pinouts, schematics, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Select appropriate materials (wires, connectors, shielding, boots, splices) for high‑temperature and high‑vibration environments.
  • Build prototype and production looms, including harness assembly, labeling, and continuity testing.
  • Support installation, troubleshooting, and modifications at the factory.
Cross‑Functional Support
  • Work closely with engine, ERS, electronics, and vehicle integration teams.
  • Support manufacturing planning, kitting, and component traceability.
  • Assist with fault investigations and root‑cause analysis related to wiring or configuration issues.
  • Ensure compliance with FIA regulations and internal quality standards.
Required Qualifications
  • Proven experience designing and building motorsport or high‑performance engine wiring looms.
  • Strong experience with Teamcenter PLM (or similar PLM system) for part numbering and BOM control.
  • Excellent understanding of electrical schematics, pinouts, and harness architecture.
  • Familiarity with autosport‑grade connectors (e.g. MIL‑spec, Souriau, Deutsch)
  • Strong attention to detail and configuration discipline.
  • Experience in Formula One, motorsport, or high‑performance automotive environments preferred.
  • Background in electrical engineering, motorsport engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with NX CAD tools.
  • Highly organized with excellent documentation discipline.
  • Strong communication skills across technical and non‑technical teams.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Proactive, hands‑on, and solution‑oriented mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of FIA homologation and compliance processes.
  • Understanding of F1 power unit systems. (ICE, ERS)
