Job summary

Gull Lake Community Schools is seeking a GSRP Behavior Support Paraprofessional to assist in supporting GSRP aged students under the direction of the administrator. The role focuses on maintaining calm, collaborative engagement and implementing behavior support strategies as part of the educational team.

Responsibilities include supporting educational objectives, protecting student confidentiality, and coordinating with teachers to address escalation situations.

Qualifications

• Association degree or two years of college completed or ETS Parapro Assessment completed.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven organizational and collaborative skills.
• Experience communicating with students, staff, parents and community.
• Ability to stay calm and act under pressure in high-tension situations.
• Willingness to intervene calmly with behaviorally escalated students.

• Prioritize and assist GSRP students needing additional behavioral support in the school environment.
• Support educational/behavioral objectives as directed by teachers and staff.
• Maintain student self-respect, information, and confidentiality.
• Work independently and with administrators and teachers.
• Provide individual assistance to behaviorally escalated students.
• Plan and organize; proactively prevent behavior issues; maintain good work habits.
• Attend conferences and participate in professional development.
• Perform other duties as assigned by administration.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the administrator, the behavior support staff is responsible for providing support to GSRP aged students.

Qualifications:

Required:

1. Possess an associate’s (or higher) degree or completed two years of study at an institution of higher education or completed ETS Parapro Assessment. This is within the guidelines for the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)
2. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and proven organizational skills
3. Demonstrated success as a collaborator and proven team player
4. Demonstrated successful communication skills with students, staff, parents and community
5. Ability to maintain composure, even temperament, and support during high-tension situations
6. Ability to think quickly and respond under pressure
7. Willingness and ability to intervene calmly with students who are behaviorally escalated and/or aggressive
8. History of positive interactions with students
9. Willing to be trained in crisis intervention strategies and use physical redirections and interventions as a last resort

Desired Characteristics:

1. Previous experience working with children with behavioral needs
2. Experience working with aggressive and escalated students
3. Experience working with behavioral teaching strategies and replacement behaviors

Duties:
