Job summary

The YMCA of Reading & Berks County is seeking an Assistant Group Supervisor to support staff and supervise activities in our child care program. Under the Center Director, you’ll help ensure safety, positive interactions, and adherence to policies.

This role is well-suited for education majors, retirees, or anyone who enjoys working with kids. Starting pay ranges from $15 to $18 per hour with a $3/hour split-shift premium for before and after school hours, with opportunities to train and grow

Qualifications

• Must have HS diploma or GED.
• 600+ hours of secondary training related to early childhood education.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate positively and professionally in English.

Responsibilities

• Assist Center Director and Group Supervisor with daily activities.
• Ensure safety and well-being of children with proper supervision.
• Model positive behavior and classroom management techniques.
• Maintain confidentiality of children’s records and program materials.
• Participate in staff meetings and trainings for professional development.

Perfect for education majors, retirees, or anyone who enjoys working with kids!ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Under the direction of the Center Director the Assistant Group Supervisor shall:Conduct the duties of this position in a manner that is consistent with and follows all YMCA Personnel and Child Care Policies; including the State Regulations for Child Care Centers, the Character Traits of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.Attend trainings, be familiar with and adhere to policies relating to Risk ManagementReport all concerns regarding the children, program and co-workers to the Center Director in a timely manner.Establish and model appropriate classroom management skills and techniques.Ensure the safety and well being of all children in the program by providing appropriate supervision and interactions.Manage behaviors through positive guidance, re-direction and conflict resolution. Establish a set of reasonable limits and consequences and follow them through consistently.Assist the Center Director in carrying out activities relating to ensuring and measuring positive outcomes for children, parents and staff.Participate fully in all center activities including but not limited to field trips, swimming and food serviceMaintain an orderly arrangement and appearance of the classroom, center and/or areas utilized by the program by cleaning, sweeping, wiping tables, vacuuming, or other duties specified by the Center DirectorCommunicate and greet parents. Report parent concerns to Group Supervisor.Maintain the confidentiality of children’s records and other pertinent informationCoordinate and plan with other teachers; schedules, breaks, activities while being sure ratios are maintained.Assist in maintaining and submitting program records such as lesson plansAttend staff meetings, trainings and other opportunities for professional development; maintain PDR and be sure training hours as governed by the State Regulations and STARS program are completed.Assist the Center Director or Group Supervisor with any other duties required or asked to maintain and provide quality child care.QUALIFICATIONS:Must meet one of the following educational requirements:A high school diploma, or a general educational development certificate and 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or the human services field.A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate, including 600 or more hours of secondary training described in 3270.31 (c)A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate, 15 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or a human services field and 1 year of experience with childrenA high school diploma or a general education development certificate and completion of a post-secondary training curriculum described in 3270.31 (c)A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 2 years experience with children.The ability to meet the requirements of the Pennsylvania Code Title 55 Chapter 3270 Public Welfare Group Supervisor and/or Assistant Group Supervisor qualifications and responsibilitiesAbility to communicate positively and professionally, both written and spoken, using the English LanguageLift items weighing up to 60 poundsAbility to stand for long periods of timeThe ability to reach a child from a distance of 30 feet in 10 seconds without danger to his/her healthAbility to demonstrate good decision making skills, intelligence, flexibility, emotional maturity, a positive outlook, enthusiasm, and a professional attitude towards all families and staffWillingness to work with others including all staff members, children and parents
