Job summary

Grifols, S.A. in California is seeking a Materials Handler to support warehouse operations, inventory control, and shipping workflows in a GMP environment.

The role involves stocking, dispensing chemicals, data entry, and ensuring accurate records while following safety and environmental policies. You will perform material transfers, packaging, and internal deliveries to designated locations, with exposure to chemicals and heavy lifting up to 75 lbs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years experience in a production inventory control environment with MRP systems.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in pharmaceutical/biologics/related healthcare manufacturing.
  • Able to lift up to 75 lbs and work in a warehouse environment with safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Shipping, receiving and stocking duties, including loading/unloading and data entry.
  • Material transfer and stocking to production lines and appropriate locations.
  • Manufacturing staging and dispensing chemicals per production work orders.
  • Hazardous waste handling and adherence to safety policies.

Under general supervison, perfom semi-routine material handling functions to support all internal and external customers in an accurate and timely manner. These functions include but are not limited to chemical dispensing, material stocking, material issuance, cycle counting, shipping, receiving and maintaining clerical records in a clean GMP environment

Summary:
Primary responsibilities for role :
  • Shipping, receiving and stocking Duties may include loading/unloading trucks, sorting, sizing for materials, stacking and loading pallets, product identification, damage inspection,shipment packaging, internal documentation creation, and/or data entry of related documents.
  • Material transfer Perform stocking, kitting, issuing, internal delivery of materials and directing of materials to appropriate internal locations, including staging / storage locations, production lines or other plant locations.

  • Manufacturing staging Dispense chemicals in ready-to-use portions in accordance with production work orders. Perform mathematical calculations, conversions, weighing operations and repetitive lifting and/or moving of materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Hazardous and bio-hazardous waste handling Perform handling of hazardous / bio-hazardous / pathological waste and used medical equipment as required per established procedure and Environmental Health & Safety policy
  • Inventory control Maintain accurate and complete inventory control of materials stored in the main and satellite warehouses including the Chemical Dispensary Area. Participate in establishing methods and procedures to ensure inventory accuracy. Work with cross-functional teams in handling and resolving supplier disputes, non-conforming material and quarantined material. Conduct scheduled cycle counts and physical inventories. Research, reconcile and correct inventory discrepancies. Maintain FIFO. Maintain proper inventory levels in designated warehouse areas such as the Chemical Dispensary Area in accordance with actual and projected usage.
  • Equipment maintenance Assist in maintenance of all equipment and control monitors used within the department and ensure that all required calibrations and preventative maintenance are conducted per schedule.
  • Housekeeping Perform routine housekeeping duties in all warehouses and work areas in compliance with departmental procedures and GMP requirements. Areas must be kept organized, safe, and secured. Areas must be kept clean and sanitized per procedure. All logs pertaining to cleaning, sanitization and pest control must be legible and kept up to date in accordance with procedure.
  • Address complaints and resolve employee related problems with the collaboration of department management and Human Resources.
  • Makes decisions independently, but within a well-defined area.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Solid math skills including knowledge of U.S. and metric systems
  • Ability to speak read and write in English
  • Basic typing and 10-key pad skills
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs, occasionally lift and/or move between 50 and 100 lbs using lifting aids, techniques, or appropriate assistance
  • Ability to work in different environments including indoor, outdoor, confined spaces and cold storage areas (-30C).
  • Must be able to operate forklifts and hand-operated material handling equipment to lift/move material
  • Demonstrated ability to relate well to others and to manage conflicts effectively
  • Able to maintain regular and predictable attendance
  • Able to work rotations and weekends as required
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

1-2 years experience in a production inventory control environment working with MRP systems, PC for data entry, inquiry and communication, and shipping using UPS, DHL and/or Federal Express systems

Minimum 1 year previous experience with pharmaceutical/biologics/related healthcare manufacturing clean environments

Occupational Demands:

Work is performed in a warehouse environment. Exposure to chemicals and to electrical manufacturing equipment and moving machinery. Exposure to high levels of noise. Occasional entry into confined spaces, requiring kneeling, crawling and squatting. Works at heights on scaffolding and/or on ladders. Operates forklifts, tractors and power equipment. Personal protective equipment required such as protective eyewear, safety shoes, gloves and hearing protection. May walk; stand, bend and twists waist for 2-4 hours per day. Frequent hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists. Ability to make precise coordinated movements, of the fingers to grasp and manipulate objects. Frequent foot movement. Light to moderate lifting and carrying of 15-44lbs. for 2-4 hours per day. Heavy lifting and carrying of 45lbs.and over for 2-4 hours per day with a maximum lift of 75lbs. Hearing acuity essential. Depth perception and far vision correctable in one eye to 20/30 and to 20/100 in the other eye. Able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken and written words and sentences. Frequently performs simple and routine tasks that vary little each day by following a set of written or oral instructions/procedures. Maintains work pace to meet production standards.

The estimated pay scale for Group Leader - Material Handler role based in California, is $28.00 -$33.00. Additionally, the position is eligible to participate in up to 5% of the company bonus pool.
