Job summary

Los Alamos National Laboratory seeks a Group Leader (R&D Manager 4) to lead the High Explosives Science & Technology group (Q-5). You will oversee a diverse team of scientists, engineers, technicians, and staff, directing short- and long-term strategies, safety, quality, and mission delivery.

You will partner with program managers and other stakeholders to advance explosive research, manage personnel and budgets, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated successful leadership of technical projects and personnel conducting high-consequence operations.
• Excellent written and oral interpersonal communication skills across all levels and customers.
• Experience with conflict resolution and staff development including mentoring and performance management.
• Teamwork and consensus building with delegated responsibilities to achieve program goals.
• Mentoring and leading teams with strong rapport with peers and supervisors.
• Well-articulated leadership philosophy and strategy supported by examples.
• Strong background in Explosives Science/Explosives Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
• Familiarity with energetic materials safety and related regulations.

Responsibilities

• Lead the High Explosives Science & Technology group (Q-5) and oversee technical, administrative aspects.
• Ensure safe, secure conduct of HE research, manage budgets and resources, and meet program milestones.
• Develop staffing plans, recruit, coach, and perform annual evaluations; manage HR functions.
• Collaborate with program managers, strategy office, and external partners on integrated planning.
• Oversee facility operations upgrades and support R&D and production process implementation.
• Drive personnel development and cross-group collaboration across the Laboratory.
