Job summary

Catalent’s Kansas City facility is seeking a Group Leader, Analytical Characterization, Biologics to manage a sub-team of scientists and serve as a technical expert on projects. The role includes mentoring associates, supporting client audits, and coordinating analytical activities for Biopharma product development under cGMP guidelines.

Location: Kansas City, MO. Shift: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM. 100% onsite; opportunity to drive quality and growth within a dynamic team at Catalent.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate with relevant experience in department-specific techniques.
• Leadership experience at Catalent or equivalent may substitute external experience.
• Willingness to mentor and lead junior scientists and manage HR-related activities.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prioritize, organize, and execute analytical work in the laboratory per client contracts.
• Ensure cGMP practices are followed by the team and self.
• Maintain safety and comply with SOPs and safety regulations.
• Establish and maintain technical communications with other groups and clients as needed.
• Conduct performance reviews and HR activities (time entry, PTO approvals, salary adjustments).
• Foster team engagement and a learning culture.

Catalent’s Kansas City facility is home to our Oral & Specialty Drug Delivery, Biologics Analytical Services and Clinical Supply Services businesses.

Position Summary

We have an opportunity for a Group Leader, Analytical Characterization, Biologics to join our team. This role focuses on managing a sub‑team of junior scientists and serving as a technical expert on projects. You will act as a liaison between teams, mentor associates, and support client audits and visits. The position involves working on analytical activities for Biopharma product development under cGMP regulatory guidance for large molecules and biologics.

Shift: Monday – Friday, 1st shift 8-4:30 pm
Location: Kansas City, MO
100% Onsite

The Role

• Plan, prioritize, organize, and execute analytical work in the laboratory according to client contracts and technical agreements.

• Ensure cGMP practices are implemented and followed by the team and self.

• Adopt safe working practices in the laboratory and comply with in‑house SOPs and safety legislation.

• Establish and maintain technical communications with other groups and clients as needed.

• Carry out performance reviews and HR activities such as time entry approval, PTO approval, and salary adjustments in line with company policy.

• Maintain team engagement and foster a learning and growth culture.

• Advocate and model Catalent’s culture of quality, safety, and ethics.

• All other duties as assigned.

The Candidate

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with more than 4 years of relevant experience in department‑specific techniques or based on performance at Catalent, OR

• Master’s degree with more than 2 years of relevant experience in department‑specific techniques or based on performance at Catalent, OR

• Doctorate degree with more than 1 year of relevant experience in department‑specific techniques or based on performance at Catalent

• Demonstrable leadership experience at Catalent (including but not limited to participation in Catalent‑supported leadership programs such as NGGL, GOLD, LEAD Now, GM Excellence, and GROW) may be considered in place of external experience.

• Individual may be required to sit, stand, walk regularly and occasionally lift, pull or push 0-40 pounds.

Preferred Skills & Background

• Knowledge of principles, theories, and concepts in disciplines such as Biology, Chemistry, and Biochemistry, with broad knowledge of related areas.

• Able to lead difficult discussions with customers and drive them to an acceptable resolution.

• Well organized with ability to multitask and complete multiple tasks efficiently within given timeframes. Coaching skills to train junior scientists.

• Good project management skills for multiple concurrent projects of moderate to high complexity.

• High personal credibility with peers and subordinates. Motivator and experienced in team development.

• Lead by example according to Catalent’s values and culture.
