Job summary

Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico seeks a senior leader to manage the Advanced Systems Development Group (Q-18). You will direct a multidisciplinary team focused on warhead systems engineering, nuclear explosive package engineering, and development of future system architectures to meet U.S.

national security needs. You will guide staff for early concept weapon engineering work and contribute to stockpile modernization roadmaps, working with NNSA/DoW and other labs.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated capability and experience in technical leadership and program management, including success in program development, program advocacy, strategic planning, resource planning and allocation, technical program execution, and/or negotiation.
• Record of professionally recognized accomplishments and demonstrated expertise in a major element of the nuclear weapons program.
• Demonstrated successful leadership of technical projects and personnel.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills both oral and written, including the ability to promote teamwork and resolve conflicts.
• Demonstrated successful teamwork and consensus building.
• Demonstrated ability to team, collaborate, or integrate across program lines to accomplish larger program goals.

Responsibilities

• Lead line management of the Advanced Systems Development Group (Q-18) at LANL.
• Direct the Q-18 team and collaborate with LANL organizations to deliver systems and products for current and future U.S. nuclear weapon needs.
• Provide staff for early concept weapon engineering work (pre-phase 1 and phase 1) and contribute to stockpile modernization strategies.
• Represent LANL in meetings with NNSA, DoW, and other labs/sites.
• Oversee program planning, long-range budget preparation and justification, and integration with other program elements to support stockpile stewardship.
• Provide technical, managerial, and programmatic leadership for technology development activities across physics, materials, production, and surveillance.
