Job summary

Job description

Position Summary:
The Group Leader requires the use of considerable judgment and the making of broad decisions involving considerable initiative and ingenuity.

  • Adjusts and prioritizes production schedule, when needed, to maximize production efficiency.
  • Assists in training and orientation for new employees.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Communicates needed information to following shift.
  • Communicates via email to provide information, answer questions, etc. to co-workers.
  • Completes requisitions, traveling requisitions, and blanket orders for purchasing materials from external vendors, submits documents to purchasing agent, and coordinates the overall purchase process.
  • Completes scrap reports and leaker rate reports daily.
  • Confers with lab to determine that materials are within specifications.
  • Ensures departmental records are complete and retained to include: scrap records and quality documents.
  • Ensures the proper handling and labeling of hazardous materials, to include the separation of trash/refuse/recycling according to hazmat standards.
  • Enters information into Excel spreadsheet in order to create Production Downtime Graph.
  • Enters production information into computer daily - to include downtime, scrap, OEE data, etc.
  • Handles materials and stages parts for employees within the department.
  • Instructs personnel in the most efficient methods in carrying out their tasks within their assigned area.
  • Maintains inventory in department to include safety equipment and production supplies.
  • Observes and leads employees to include overseeing their work & production, and their adherence to rules & policies.
  • Observes employees to ensure proper work and safety guidelines are being followed.
  • Observes equipment to ensure correct product is running and equipment is running correctly.
  • Operates machines within department when needed and ensures continuous production.
  • Orders materials and supplies needed by the department from both internal providers and external vendors, completing required paperwork.
  • Oversees housekeeping and adherence to 5S, cleaning machines and work area on a daily/scheduled basis.
  • Oversees receiving area and red tag responsibilities for department.
  • Participates and completes required trainings such as compliance, safety, etc.
  • Participates in physical inventory.
  • Participates in RCRA training.
  • Participates in repair and maintenance of machines, to include required projects (such as building of furnaces, ladles, chutes, etc.) or shutdown maintenance projects.
  • Performs quality checks to include materials, parts, processes, and machine parameters.
  • Problem solves production issues to include down machines, lines, and quality & production problems, conferring with maintenance or management when needed.
  • Provides needed information to employees within department, to include safety policies, production information, clocking procedures, and other organizational information.
  • Reads information such as: company benefits, memos, training materials, specials, Oasis pack sheet, machine manuals, etc.
  • Reads pack plan report to plan production schedule and determine in what order production should be completed.
  • Responds to emergencies and completes or assists with required incident report.
  • Sets up machines at beginning of shift.
  • Sets up machines for changeovers when necessary.
  • Suggests improvements in work methods and procedures by discussing ideas with operators, maintenance, supervisors and/or engineers.
  • Tracks external and/or internal customer complaints, investigates when and by whom error was made.
  • Troubleshoots work-related problems by investigating the entire production process, isolating the problem, determining the extent of the problem, shutting down the process if needed, and then determining how to fix it.
  • Uses basic hand tools such as grinds, scaling gun, drills and wrenches.
  • Uses basic mathematical skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to calculate correct order, order boxes, parts and calculate yields.
  • Uses basic office equipment such as copier, telephone, calculator, etc.
  • Uses computer to enter work orders and order in house parts.
  • Uses computer to read specials and emails, to create build sheets, order parts, record production information, check status of available parts and determine errors.
  • Uses conversion tables to maintain production equipment, machine and molding quality.
  • Uses fork truck and pallet jacks to move materials, parts, finished product and scrap.
  • Uses formulas to correctly mix castable.
  • Uses MFG/PRO computer program to locate parts internally, to perform cycle counts, and gather information for inventory, etc.
  • Weighs parts and creates labels for baskets and production reports.
  • Works in teams to ensure that the process runs smoothly, to motivate employees within the department, to ensure good communication from management to operators, and to ensure customer satisfaction through the delivery of quality product, on time.
  • Works in teams with co-workers, supervision, temporary workers, other departments to accomplish work related goals.
  • Works safely to prevent on the job injuries by providing proper training to employees, evaluating ergonomic concerns, completing RIR forms, and following guidelines/recommendations of safety department.
