Job summary

Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of New York is seeking a Group Leader to provide academic support and supervise participants after school, helping with homework and study skills. This is a part-time position from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with in-person work unless city mandate allows virtual work.

A HS diploma and childcare experience are required, with AA/BA a plus. Candidates must be at least 18 and have strong interpersonal and communication skills; responsibilities include

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or Equivalency; working towards or possessing AA or BA degree a plus.
  • At least 1 year experience working in childcare programming.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.

Responsibilities

  • Assist participants with homework and provide academic support and guidance.
  • Track daily attendance of participants.
  • Complete monthly progress forms such as homework logs and behavior logs.
  • Notify Program Director of changes in participants’ behavior.
  • Provide academic support and guidance, including homework help.
  • Group Leaders will create lesson plans for activities (Arts and Crafts, Dance, STEM, Physical activities, SEL).
  • Attend weekly meetings with the Program Director or Assistant Director.
  • Attend Agency Program events and professional development days.
  • Engage in program and community events.
  • Ensure cleanliness and presentation of all program spaces.

Hourly Rate-$20.00

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Arrive on time, ready to work, and report to the Program Director or Program Supervisor.
  • Track daily attendance of participants.
  • Complete monthly progress forms such as homework logs, ang behavior logs.
  • Notify Program Director of changes in participants’ behavior.
  • Provide academic support and guidance, including homework help.
  • Group Leaders will create lesson plans for participants such as but not limited to Arts and Crafts, Dance, STEM, Physical activities and SEL.
  • Attend weekly meetings with the Program Director or Assistant Director.
  • Attend Agency Program special events and professional development days.
  • Engage in program and community events.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and presentation of all program spaces is a MUST.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a part-time position. Work hours are generally 4 hours per day, 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Monday-Friday. In person position unless city mandate for virtual work.

  • Ability and patience to work with children and young people, particularly in group settings.
  • Supervising classroom management always.
  • Travel when taking field trips/escorting youth, using public transportation, traverse city streets, ascend/descend stairs, and be exposed to outside weather conditions.
Qualifications
Education and/or experience required:
  • HS Diploma or Equivalency; working towards or possessing AA or BA degree a plus.
  • At least one (1) year experience working in childcare programming.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
