Job summary

Catholic Charities of New York is seeking a Group Leader to support participants with homework and academic guidance in New York City. The role is part-time, 2:00 PM–6:00 PM, Monday–Friday, with in-person work unless a city mandate requires virtual work.

The position reports to the Program Director and Program Supervisor and involves activity planning and field trips as needed. The candidate should have a HS diploma or equivalency, at least 18 years old, and one year of childcare experience.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or Equivalency; working towards or possessing AA or BA degree a plus.
• At least one year of experience working in childcare programming.
• Must be at least 18 years old.

Responsibilities

• Arrive on time and report to the Program Director or Program Supervisor.
• Track daily attendance of participants.
• Complete monthly progress forms such as homework logs and behavior logs.
• Notify Program Director of changes in participants' behavior.
• Provide academic support and guidance, including homework help.
• Create lesson plans for activities like Arts and Crafts, Dance, STEM, and SEL.
• Attend weekly meetings with the Director and/or Assistant Director.
• Participate in agency events and professional development days.
• Engage in program and community events and maintain clean, presentable spaces.

Salary: $20 per hour

Summary: The Group Leader is responsible for helping participants complete homework and provide academic support and guidance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Arrive on time, ready to work, and report to the Program Director or Program Supervisor.
• Track daily attendance of participants.
• Complete monthly progress forms such as homework logs, ang behavior logs.
• Notify Program Director of changes in participants' behavior.
• Provide academic support and guidance, including homework help.
• Group Leaders will create lesson plans for participants such as but not limited to Arts and Crafts, Dance, STEM, Physical activities and SEL.
• Attend weekly meetings with the Program Director or Assistant Director.
• Attend Agency Program special events and professional development days.
• Engage in program and community events.
• Ensure the cleanliness and presentation of all program spaces is a MUST.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a part-time position. Work hours are generally 4 hours per day, 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Monday-Friday. In person position unless city mandate for virtual work.

Working conditions and physical demands required:

• Ability and patience to work with children and young people, particularly in group settings.
• Supervising classroom management always.
• Travel when taking field trips/escorting youth, using public transportation, traverse city streets, ascend/descend stairs, and be exposed to outside weather conditions.
