Job summary

HeartShare in New York City is seeking a Group Leader to supervise and engage a youth group in afterschool or summer camp settings, ensuring safety and a positive, inclusive environment.

You will mentor participants, support homework and enrichment activities, and collaborate with families and staff to strengthen youth outcomes. Availability includes after-school and summer hours, with on-site responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Must be a High School Senior or higher to apply.
• Must be at least 17 years old.
• Up to 1 year of experience with children and homework help.

Responsibilities

• Serves as role model for program participants.
• Remains sensitive and responsive to cultural differences of program participants and staff.
• Participates in in-service trainings and on-site workshops as required for professional growth and development. Attends external trainings and workshops at direction of management.
• Supervise and actively engage a group of children in daily program activities and assisting them with homework, arts and crafts, recreation and other activities.
• Assist in planning and leading age-appropriate academic, recreational and cultural enrichment activities.
• Create a safe learning space for children that promotes a positive, respectful, and inclusive environment.
• Build a rapport with participants, families, and staff, fostering strong relationships.
• Assist in maintaining daily attendance records, incident reports, and other required documentation for program participants.
• Communicate professionally with families, teachers and community members about the program and work with them to strengthen support for youth.
• Accompany youth on cultural and recreational field trips.

This role involves implementing schedule activities, fostering a positive and inclusive environment, and serving as a mentor and role model to the youth. The ideal candidate is dependable, energetic, and passionate about youth development.
