Job summary

YMCA in Joshua, Texas, is seeking a Group Exercise Instructor to lead and motivate members in diverse fitness classes. You will design safe, engaging sessions, provide clear instructions, and adapt to all fitness levels while fostering a welcoming community.

The role requires national group exercise certification, CPR/First Aid/AED, and a commitment to ongoing YMCA training. Flexible schedule including evenings and weekends is expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Nationally recognized group exercise certification (AFAA, ACE, ACSM, or YMCA) required.
• CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required (or willingness to obtain within 30 days).

Responsibilities

• Plan and prepare group exercise classes that are safe, effective, and fun.
• Deliver classes that meet the needs and preferences of diverse participants.
• Provide clear instructions, demonstrations, and modifications for all fitness levels.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with class participants.
• Create a welcoming and motivating environment for all members.
• Offer encouragement, support, and positive reinforcement.
• Ensure exercises are performed safely and effectively.
• Monitor participants for proper form and technique.
• Respond promptly to accidents or emergencies per YMCA protocols.
• Stay current with industry trends and best practices.
• Participate in ongoing YMCA training and development programs.
• Maintain required certifications and seek additional relevant certifications.
• Ensure the fitness studio is clean, safe, and well-maintained.
• Report equipment or facility concerns to staff.
• Assist with setup and breakdown of equipment as needed.
