Job summary

Crossroads YMCA in Hammond, IN is seeking a part-time group exercise instructor to lead energizing classes in accordance with YMCA guidelines. The role starts at $15.00 per hour and pays more based on experience and qualifications.

You will create a welcoming environment for participants of varying ages, fitness levels, and backgrounds, demonstrate safe movements, motivate and support members, and help them connect with the YMCA community. Flexibility with hours may be required.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and abilities.
• Passion for health, wellness, fitness, and helping others achieve goals.
• Willingness to learn and continue developing group exercise skills.
• Previous group exercise, fitness, coaching, sports, or teaching experience is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

• Lead energizing group exercise classes following YMCA guidelines.
• Create a welcoming environment for participants of all ages and fitness levels.
• Demonstrate exercises with clear instruction, motivation, and encouragement.
• Modify movements for different abilities and health needs.
• Build authentic relationships with members and connect them with the YMCA.
• Use active listening to support members' wellness goals.
• Celebrate member progress toward personal goals and well-being.
• Maintain class attendance records and support member retention.
• Prepare for classes with appropriate equipment and space.
• Follow YMCA policies, safety standards, and emergency protocols.
• Complete required certifications and staff training.
• Attend staff meetings and YMCA events; assist with fundraising and events.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
