Who We Need

The Instructor is a self-starter with an adaptive work style who is passionate about helping others reach their health goals. The Instructor will work with SNAP-Ed target populations providing instruction and education to energetic groups. The Instructor works with diverse populations to bring communities together through health promotion and obesity prevention. They will be responsible for leading virtual and or in person physical activity and nutrition education classes to community groups in a fun and safe manner, engaging with participants to ensure program retention, promoting Healthier Texas’ programming and events, and will perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Instruction (75%)

  • Lead physical activity program and provide nutrition education to SNAP-Ed target audiences, ensuring safety and engagement
  • Attend training on curricula to ensure program fidelity
  • Participate and support implementation of local community events such as, but not limited to, outreach events and Community Challenge.

Relationship Manager (15%)

  • Create and maintain relationships with program participants
  • Create and maintain relationships with community groups, when assigned, to offer programming

Community Engagement (10%)

  • Promote classes throughout the community via social media and community networks

Requirements

  • Professional: You always maintain a high level of professionalism, including being punctual, reliable, and courteous to participants and colleagues.

What You’ll Bring

  • At least 1 year of instruction of physical activity/ nutrition programs (virtually/ in-person) - Required
  • Certified Personal Trainer or Group Fitness Instructor (ACE, NASM, ACSM, or equivalent certification) - Required
  • Availability to work hours: Monday 5pm - 7pm and Saturday 8am - 12pm Required; additional availability Tuesdays & Wednesdays (AM/PM) preferred
  • Available to teach multiple formats: Zumba (Required), cardio/strength
  • Reside in Austin, TX - Required
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong relationship-building skills
  • Proficient in using technology (Zoom)
  • Professional knowledge in nutrition education curricula (preferred)
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) (preferred but not required)
