YMCA of South Alabama in Spanish Fort, AL is seeking a Group Exercise Instructor to lead safe, engaging classes that support the YMCA's mission and promote healthy living for all.

Responsibilities include demonstrating technique, offering modifications for all levels, creating a welcoming, inclusive environment, ensuring participant safety, arriving prepared for each 60‑minute session, and reporting incidents or equipment issues to the supervisor.

Qualifications

• Current group exercise certification from a nationally recognized organization or YMCA-approved equivalent.
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to the YMCA mission and core values.

Position Summary

The Group Exercise Instructor leads safe, effective, and engaging group fitness classes that support the YMCA’s mission and promote healthy living for all.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead group exercise classes in accordance with YMCA standards
• Demonstrate proper technique and offer modifications for all fitness levels
• Create a welcoming, inclusive, and motivating environment
• Ensure participant safety and follow YMCA policies and procedures
• Arrive prepared and on time for all scheduled classes
• Report incidents, injuries, or equipment issues to the supervisor

Child Abuse Prevention

Employees and volunteers who directly supervise consumers will:

• Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
• Attend required abuse risk management training.

Employees and volunteers who do not directly supervise consumers will:

• Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
• Attend required abuse risk management training.
• Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
• Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
• Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.

Maintenance employees and volunteers—ensure unused rooms and closets remain locked; routinely monitor high-risk locations (locker-rooms and bathrooms), etc.

Front desk personnel—ensure consumers are properly signed in and signed out, ensures only authorized adults are allowed in the facility, etc.

Physical Requirements
