GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK
Performs physical support work facilitating, assisting and instructing program participants in the safe and effective practices related to group fitness programs at Monroe Aquatics and Fitness Center (MAFC); does related work as required. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the MAFC Group Fitness Supervisor.
This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for peripheral vision, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions. The worker may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
Essential Functions/Typical Tasks
Plans and instructs group fitness classes for both land and water; maintains records and files; prepares reports; makes recommendations of supply orders. Enforces policies and maintains order of group fitness participants. Issues and collects equipment, maintains proper inventories, and monitors use. Cleans and sets up group fitness equipment. Ensures towels and other supplies are stocked. Performs related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
General knowledge of and understanding of group fitness principles and applications of fitness principles in a group fitness setting; general knowledge of first aid practices; ability to maintain order in a public facility; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants, associates and the general public; ability to adhere to program standards and objectives outlined by superiors; ability to meet and deal effectively with the public.
Education And Experience
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or GED and minimal experience in structured group fitness instruction.
Special Requirements
Possession of an appropriate driver’s license in the State of North Carolina. Obtain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Basic First Aid certifications and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training within six months. Certification from a nationally accredited and/or United States Federal Government approved Fitness Organization in group fitness instruction and/or aquatic fitness.
