GENERAL SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Vice President/General Manager, the Group Exercise Director is responsible for leading the Group Exercise department, providing safe, creative, and inviting group exercise programs. This leadership position projects clear knowledge and experience of the industry, actively solicits member opinions regarding the program, and ultimately provides members with an exciting and innovative group exercise program. The director oversees group exercise operations to ensure the delivery of professional, high‑quality, safe, and innovative health services and programs to our membership. Responsibilities also include managing the revenues associated with all group exercise services and programs, providing exceptional customer service, creating an environment of hospitality and luxury, and consistently demonstrating a positive and professional attitude.

Primary Job Functions
Associate Management
  • Hires, trains, supervises, develops, and terminates the employment of associates in accordance with company policies and directives
  • Performs timely performance evaluations of associates
  • Ensures implementation of all laws, regulations, and policies regarding employment practices, safety rules, and company procedures
  • Processes payroll for directly supervised staff
Group Exercise Program
  • Profitably manages group exercise operations, including development, implementation, and evaluation of member‑focused, group‑fitness‑related operational and service standards
  • Manages operations such as customer service, communication, marketing, purchasing, budgeting, and financial analysis
  • Ensures departments operate within established guidelines and manages expenses against budgets
  • Represents the club professionally through image, dress, communication, and immediate follow‑through and response
  • Provides members with an exciting and innovative group exercise program
Financial Accountability
  • Manages financial performance of the Group Exercise Program through achievement of revenue targets, expense management, and proper planning and forecasting
  • Tracks, reports, and analyzes financial details on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis
  • Prepares and implements action plans to meet or exceed monthly financial goals
  • Reviews applicable financial statements and reports
Customer Service
  • Delivers exceptional service experience to members, guests, and associates
  • Assists in marketing the Group Exercise program
Communication and Relationships
  • Interacts and communicates effectively and professionally with other associates, members, and guests
  • Actively participates in required events, programs, meetings, and trainings
Corporate Goals & Objectives
  • Promotes the company’s safety goals and works toward ensuring a safe working environment
  • Actively furthers corporate objectives and supports continuous improvement and positive change, including participation on corporate‑designated committees
  • Prioritizes professional development consistently

  • Flexibility in work schedule; the job may require day and evening shifts, weekends, and holidays
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary job function satisfactorily. The following skills, knowledge, and abilities are required:

Skills & Knowledge
  • Sales and Marketing – Knowledge of promoting, showing, and selling services, including strategy, tactics, and techniques
  • Policies and Regulations – Knowledge of company policies
  • Written Comprehension and Expression – Ability to read, understand, and communicate information in writing
  • Oral Comprehension and Expression – Ability to understand and communicate verbally
  • Computer – Proficient with scheduling and email communication software, such as Microsoft Outlook
Experience & Education
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Certifications from ACE, AFAA, ACSM, or NASM or equivalent
  • Previous fitness operations experience
  • Proven leadership skills, strong interpersonal and management skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Professional, friendly manner and excellent customer service attitude and abilities
  • Enthusiastic, responsible, and dependable team player
  • Self‑motivated, capable of initiative, and able to work independently in a multi‑tasked environment
  • Well organized and detail oriented
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
  • Position changes frequently between indoor and outdoor locations
  • Requires adaptation to frequently changing environments
  • Regular contact with members and guests via in‑person, phone, and email
  • Sometimes needs to handle unpleasant or angry individuals, requiring problem‑solving skills
  • Work involves sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, and light manual handling (up to 10 lb)
  • Vision requirements include close and distance vision with ability to adjust focus
