Job summary

The Bay Club Company is seeking a Group Exercise Instructor to lead diverse classes for a discerning fitness population at the Fremont location. The role emphasizes safe, engaging, and high-quality programming with superb customer service.

The instructor should maintain flexibility for weekend/holiday hours and represent TBCC professionally in all interactions. Certification, CPR, and teaching experience are required.

Qualifications

  • Current Group Exercise certification with ACE, AFAA, ACSM, or specialty-specific certification.
  • Current CPR/AED certification.
  • Minimum two (2) years of group exercise or fitness-related teaching experience.
  • Professional, friendly manner and excellent customer service abilities.
  • Knowledge of sales and marketing principles and tactics for promoting services.
  • Problem anticipation and deductive reasoning abilities.
  • Oral comprehension and expression skills.
  • Computer skills in Word, Excel and other TBCC software.

  • Represent the club in a professional manner through image, dress, communication, and immediate follow through and response.
  • Schedule varies and may require weekend and holiday hours.

Under the direction of the Group Fitness Director, the Group Exercise Instructor is responsible for providing creative, inviting, and encouraging group exercise programs while maintaining a safe and effective learning environment and focusing on delivering the best customer service and hospitality to members and guests.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary job function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • Current Group Exercise certification with one or more of the following: ACE, AFAA, ACSM, or specialty-specific (i.e., Yoga, Pilates, Les Mills) certification, as required for format taught
  • Current CPR/AED certification
  • Minimum two (2) years of group exercise or fitness-related teaching experience
  • Professional, friendly manner and excellent customer service abilities
  • Knowledge of sales and marketing principles and tactics for promoting services
  • Problem anticipation and deductive reasoning abilities
  • Oral comprehension and expression skills
  • Computer skills in Word, Excel and other software required by TBCC
WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to arrive on time for all scheduled shifts; ability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays
  • Must be flexible, adaptable, and readily able to adjust to changes in the work environment
  • Position requires public contact
  • Capable of dealing with unpleasant or angry people and problem solving difficult situations
  • Adapt to a frequently changing environment
  • Frequently requires use of hands to feel, handle, or touch; reach with hands and arms
  • Frequently requires walking, stooping, kneeling, climbing, balancing, dancing or stretching
  • Occasional walking around the facility, talking and hearing, moving 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
